The Hair Trial (1 week before the big day)

Ok, so I'm start where I finished off in my second last post. I was on my way to fetch my youngest daughter to go for our hair trial. It was lovely to just go and relax for a little while with my girls. I gave them all their gift - a beautiful pair of earrings made to order from Kathleen's Bead Studio. Gorgeous on all of them I might add. So all my Wonder Women were there and we all sat around being faffed over.

Here are some pics of this time....

Time to update!

Wow ... I've been married for three weeks now and I haven't updated my blog! How rude of me! I've got so much to tell you all, but I'm waiting for photos from a few people ... when I have them I can update with visuals!

Promise to do so too!

7 more sleepies

This time next week I'll be packing things into my Wonder Women's cars to go to the venue and book into the rooms. It will be time to start getting prepared for later that afternoon.

I'm thinking pink bubbles (rose sparkling wine) and chocolate might just be the breakfast of champions. Although it might be a better option to just go have a nice big breakfast at the venue instead. Don't want to be floating around in a daze all day due to having a "champagne breakfast".

So what's been happening since I last blogged? Quite a bit.

Firstly, I think Father Time has been using speed or something because the last two weeks have flown by. I'm hoping that this last week will fly by too and then slow down to a snails pace so I can enjoy the two weeks I'll be off with my husband.

It has been a busy time as you can imagine. I've been trying to get the final loose ends tied up so that I can start to relax. Wishful thinking.

I went to fetch my jewelry on Thursday from Kathleen. It looks amazing! I can't wait to give my Wonder Women their gifts today when I see them for our hair trial. Oh and YAY for finally going to get my hair done! I feel like bursting into song ... "I'm gonna wash that grey right outta myyyyyyyy hairrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr". I feel like a twilight vampire as the sun reflects off of the grey streaks on my head. Ok, it's not that bad actually. Anyway. I'm dying to see what my hairdresser comes up with for my hair (no pun intended) and how it will all look when my tiara is on. Told you I was going all princess style for this day.

And talking about princess style, we had our first dress fitting last Saturday. Which was postponed from the Saturday before that. Oh my shattered nerves! Anyway, we tried on the linings of our dresses - me with a large poofy petticoat thingi too - and so far so good. We were meant to go back again this Thursday past, but when I called to confirm I was told the dress maker wouldn't be ready for us, so we'll have to come on Tuesday next week.

... Tuesday next week.

4 days before the wedding.

*&^%$#$%^&*&^%$#%^&*

*runs around screaming in panic*

Needless to say, I'm feeling a little let down by the dress maker at this moment. But I know he's good at what he does. I just wish the dress was done already! Would be one less thing to worry about. He better not mess it up ... or he'll definitely be missing a testicle or two by the time I'm done with him.

My BBF organised a kitchen tea for me two Sundays ago, which was hosted at my parents place. It was lovely! They've stocked up my pantry with all sorts of baking goodies and yummy things that I wouldn't usually buy myself because they fall into the "luxuries" category. Yay yay yay!!! For those of you that were there, thank you so much for all the goodies and all the love! Mwah!

What else ...

Oh yes! I took my mother and my three klingons shopping for the wedding. Finding a suit for my son has been an interesting endeavor to say the least. I was hoping to get him a set at Edgars, but then its a case of the jacket fits beautifully but the pants don't. Eventually found him a jacket at Woolworths which looks great - just want to see about changing the buttons now. The pants were a nightmare. Eventually I was told that I'd have to drive to Paarl Mall to get them as they have stock. I was even in JHB on business this week and kept an eye out when we happened to go past a shop. But alas ... nada, zilch, niks! So last night after work we met up with the minister to discuss final plans, etc, and I popped into the Woolies there (Tygervalley Mall). They had the pants in a variety of sizes! Yay! So I've now had to buy them in two sizes and will have to return which ever one doesn't fit. OMG I hope one of them fits! I'm going to have to take them up anyway though because the legs are going to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long for the kid! And if it's one thing he's sticky about, it's the length of his pants! *sigh*

Anyway, we found a beautiful outfit for my mom - she's going to look so pretty. Then it was us off to find my two girls shoes for the occasion. Managed to find Raechel a very cute pair of shoes to go with her dress. Had to make it very clear to her that they were not to be worn before the wedding though! She wanted to run around in them immediately. Eventually found Danielle a pair of heels to wear. That was amusing. She had some on and was walking around the shop. Thing is, those legs and ankles were wobbling about like a new born bambi! Had to tell her she won't be able to dance in those and that we had to take it down a notch. Found her a gorgeous pair of heels that work beautifully. She's stoked of course to officially have her first pair. Which by the way, fit me too! Maybe she'll stay away from mine now! LOL!

Talking about dancing ... we decided to take the kids with us last week to dance class and we were all taught to do the "Boogie". What fun! The kids had a ball and have been practicing ever since. Very cool.

Ok, I have to go fetch my little one so that she can have her hair done too.

Three weeks to go ...

So I didn't win that competition - missed it by 7 votes. Not the end of the world though because I have the most brilliant woman doing my make-up for me :)

Yes people of blog world, I'm now going to punt my make up artist (that means I'm going to ADVERTISE her, not kick her).

We did a trial on 4 September and she did such a brilliant job. So it is with much relief that after the last nightmare I had I know I can rest assured that I have got a fantastic make up artist to make me look like a model. I can't wait to be all dressed up with the hair all fancy and the face all done up. Not done up to the point where I'd look like a drag queen mind you. No no. Done up to look like a princess.

Now I don't think she has a web page up yet, but you can contact her on her email address: ulrikebester@telkomsa.net or via her Facebook page. Trust me, she is very good at what she does and worth every penny.

Ok, so now an update on other wedding info.

I woke up on Thursday morning in one of those "OMG I need to make a list" moments. And since I didn't have pen and paper next to the bed, I grabbed my Blackberry and started making a list of things I need to do. Needless to say, this list is as long as my arm! Thank the heavens above I wasn't "blessed" with arms like an orangutan! So I have now started working on that list and many things have now been marked as "in progress" ... lets just hope I can move them on soon to "completed"!

You know something though? I don't remember there being so many legalities the first time I did this. You have to have fingerprints taken these days. Fingerprints! WTF! I'm so glad our marriage official told us to come see him a few days before the big day to get that messy business out the way. Can you imagine that crap getting on my dress!!! The horror! And and and! That's not all. You need three ID pics ... each. Whoever is signing as witnesses (that will be my dad and H2B's mother - a.k.a MOG [mother of groom ... keep up people!]), we have to have a copy of their ID's as well as ours. That's just to name a few things that our marriage official needs for all the paperwork to be processed.

So today I met with the head of the Wonder Woman squad and we had breakfast - so nice to be able to spend time with my BFF and catch up! (Love you hunny!) After that we went off to Candles 2 Hire here in Somerset West to go figure out what we need to hire for decor purposes. No, don't panic! I've got it all together! Just had to get this final detail done! Anyway, we met with Barnie van Vuuren, owner of Candles 2 Hire. He was very helpful and will be sending me a quotation in the next day or so - hopefully with a rather grand discount too. No pun intended there by the way. If this all pans out the way I'm seeing it in my head then its going to look amazing. Definitely going to need to get together with my MC who will be handling arrangements for me on the day and get the details sorted.

After that my H2B and I went off to Cape Garden Centre and Atlantic Pebbles in Joostenburgvlakte to get a few things that we needed for the decor, etc. What a lovely place! The kids would so love it! Can't afford to take them there at the moment ... and might not for some time while I pay back the debt I'm incurring! LOL! I'm so glad we went there today - we got things done and it was a good relaxing time.

Next on the orangutan list of things to do .... well, lets see .... *grabs Blackberry* ... sorting out shoes for my daughters (1 x flower girl; 1 x bridesmaid) and my son (1 x bear ringer - I'll explain that one in a bit). Get my son his suit "a-la-bond style" (he also asked for a water pistol that looks like a "real gun" so he can really look like Bond and maybe shoot some people .... SO not going to happen). I need to go to the venue and sort out the food and drink story - I think this will probably be done a week before though just to make sure the numbers are final. We need to finalize music choices for certain times during the evening. We need to see the marriage official. I need to go fetch the jewelry before 16th. I need to go fetch the flowers for the bouquets and those little lapel thingies that the groom and other bridal party/family have to wear ... never know what to call those ... because, YES! I'm doing the bouquets and lapel thingies myself. Not a damn am I paying over R400 for a bunch of flowers that I could put together myself for about R200! Daylight robbery I tell you! I have to find a small blackboard with a nice frame around it - about A4 size (if anyone knows where I'll find that let me know PLEASE). And then there's a few other things too which by mentioning would make this post as long as a full grown orangutan's arms.

So, lots to do, lots to do.

Thank GOD I've got people who are making an effort to help :)

My head Wonder Woman is going to be taking off the day before the wedding to help me fetch things and get things in order. The rest of the Wonder Woman team will be coming to join us later on and staying over. The night before is going to be great.

OH LORD! I still have to go buy some sexy undies for later on the big day .... because what I AM wearing under the dress is not going to inspire greatness in my H2B at all. And no, you will not be seeing a photo of THAT! Getting into a stomach-tucking-bum-lifting-thigh-smoothing undergarment is a laugh to say the least. I can't do it on my own either. No. I need help pulling it over my ass cheeks. And yes. It's hysterical and bound to bring forth great mirth to my ladies in waiting. Oh and by the way - any woman who is not a stick insect and about to fall through her own ass, who tells you that what they have on under their wedding dress is "sexy" is LYING to you! Trust me. She will be wearing something very unflattering to the "naked" eye to make the final picture look dreamy. And then, when the time comes for the newly weds to leave and go show each other their freak flags (you know you have one ... you may not know how to fly it yet ... but you have one), the bride will slip away and strip off the false advertising she has adorned and slip on something gorgeous and ready to be torn off. Ah the joys of being newly wed. Can't wait! ........ Thank GOD he knows what he's in for!

I did promise earlier to explain the "bear ringer" statement. When the kids found out that we were going to be tying the knot, they got all excited and through the bouncing up and down in the kitchen were shouting out what they wanted to be for the day.
  • Danielle: "Mommy mommy! Can I be a bridesmaid?!"
  • Raechel: "I want to be the flower girl! I want to be the flower girl! Can I? Can I can I ????"
  • Ethan: "I can be the BEAR RINGER!!!!!!
So yes, my ring bearer will hence forth be my bear ringer. Don't tease him about it though. He bites and can be a cranky cub - but his mama bear will take your head off if you do. ;)

The other day my little flower girl asked me very seriously if I was going to be wearing heels under my dress. Bless her soul, to her I'm not a short pygmy. When I confirmed that I was the answer was something along the lines of: "But you'll mess up the petals I need to throw" ....

.... crap .... one more thing to add to the list .... *hauls out Blackberry* ... get petals for flower girl to "sprinkle on the floor as I walk in front of you mommy" (said with dreamy grin).

OK ... I'm off to bed ... don't wake me early ... I'll be very displeased with your actions which will bring about great pain and discomfort to you.

Nice surprise

This week hasn't been a good one so far ... I've been rather snowed under at work trying to get a whole host of things done. It gets a little stressful to say the least.

Something did however make my day today.

I received an email from Wedding Connexions to say that I was a finalist in their Cape Town Bride Make Up Competition. I entered this on Facebook on the Wedding Planning group page. Basically I'm one of five finalists and I stand the chance of winning my wedding day make up for free from Powder Puff Make Up! What a great surprise!

So now, its time to vote for me. You have to become a fan of their group on Facebook to be able to vote. Once you're a fan, you can click here and then click on my picture and click on "like" to vote. If you're not of Facebook and would still like to vote, leave me a message and I'll send you the email address to mail your vote to.

The voting closes tomorrow evening at 10pm.

I'll let you all know how it goes ...

ooooooooooooooo SHINY!!!

I went to spend some time with the lady who is going to be making my tiara (yes I'm going all princess for the big day), earrings and bracelet. Her name is Kathleen Barry and she owns Kathleen's Bead Studio in Claremont (check out her website, blog and Facebook page).

If you're planning an outfit for any occasion and need some appropriate jewelry to go with it, Kathleen is the perfect person to go see for something unique. I took swatches of the material that is being used to make my dress, the bridesmaids dresses and the flower girl dress. We matched up the right colour Swarovski crystals to the material and decided on which design for earrings etc would work. It's going to look amazing!!! Can't wait to see the final product and then enjoy wearing it on the day.

Now I'll probably only ever wear that tiara once, but its not a waste of money because Kathleen (in her brilliance) has suggested that when I'm ready to do it I should bring the tiara in to her and we'll use the crystals to make other jewelry that I'll be able to wear more often. Clever. Very clever.

I'll post a picture of what it looks like when I get it from her. I should be picking up all the goodies by 15 October. Just in time for our hair trial with Rachel at Carlton Hair on 16 October :)

Everything is coming together and I'm literally counting down the days to walking down the aisle and becoming Mrs H2B!

What I will be doing shortly is putting a list together of all the service providers I'm going to be using to make this day exceptional. I'm sure this may come in handy for anyone else there who may be thinking along the same lines as I am :)

Chat soon!

Changes again....

So apparently a change is as good as a holiday ... so I'm going to see if the change to this blog will grow on me or not ...

Sunday, September 19, 2010

So much to do, so little time....

It's the final count down! Today in five weeks time my H2B and I will officially be Mr and Mrs Allen. We'll be on the road trip made in heaven ... off on our honeymoon .... so exciting ... 34 days too far away right now! I am desperate for a holiday! Need some time out away from reality and the busyness of my life.

I get this panicky feeling when I start thinking how little time I have left to sort things out. I know I had another dream the other night too ... but for the life of me can't remember what that one was all about. I do know it was wedding day related. I had another dream after that which was work related and that's the one I do remember. It has been rather hectic at work, so I don't get much sleep when I am perplexed about things.

But enough bitching and whining .... look at this:
hahahahahaha! I've been browsing through these online comics and this one is called "Get Fuzzy". You'd have to go read it from the first one because some of them follow on from the last ones. Funny funny funny! I've been loving it. Laughing so much the tears where flowing and my H2B was getting slightly irritated. Nah, he wasn't actually, but I'm sure if I had carried on it would have ended badly! LOL!

Go check it out and let me know what you think!

Decisions and Choices

While at work today I was contacted by an old friend via Skype with whom I haven't spoken in quite some time. It was lovely to hear from her again. It also made me realise how far I've come over the last 3 years of my life. *Reminisce Reminisce*

My journey (for those of you who don't know already) is something that has been blogged about on this site for some time - feel free to do some catch up and go read about it if you want to. I'm not going to recap on everything now. Needless to say, it has been an incredible journey of self-discovery and growth. I've learnt so much and continue to do so each day. I have an amazing man in my life who I love and adore and who literally treats me like a queen. A great job. A roof over my head, food on the table, a sexy beast of a vehicle and three gorgeous children who I adore. There is almost nothing I could add to my life right now to make it better.

One of my favorite quotations whilst on this journey has to be by the author Anias Nin:

"Then the time came when the risk it took
To remain tight in a bud was more painful
Than the risk it took to blossom."

I love that quote ... it says so much of how I was feeling when I made some life altering decisions for myself. Decisions that would affect everyone around me. Decisions that would take people out of my life. Decisions that would ultimately cut me off from a life I had been leading. Yet it would be a decision that would make me spread my wings.

How liberating. The freedom that comes with a decision that more often than not 90% of people around you would see as sheer madness. Yet, you go ahead anyway. Because in your heart of hearts, in that place where you keep all your deepest and perhaps darkest secrets - the place you tend to hide the real you ... or the parts of yourself no-one wants to see because it might "offend" by not fitting the mold. In that place deep inside your heart and soul, you know its the right thing to do. And not just for you, but for everyone else involved too.

Those decisions are never easy to make either. They force you out of your comfort zone at a speed that could leave you dizzy and nauseous. And they're not decisions that should be made during a fleeting or heated moment either. They require much thought and deliberation. Less emotional energy and more clear thinking. Often much planning needs to be made too ... "get your ducks in a row" as the old saying goes. Making a rushed decision has never ended well. Even risks need to be thought about well before being embarked on.

Having the courage to delve deeply into your own life, heart, soul ... where ever you AND the angels fear to tread ... having the courage to do that is a major accomplishment. It means not lying to yourself and being brutally honest about what you see in there. It means acknowledging your faults and weaknesses and having the courage and strength to change them by any means possible. Of course that means making some hard and conscious decisions that will often take you on a path that is very uncomfortable. But at the end of the day, its about where you want to end up. Your finish line. Your goal post. You decide what type of person you really want to be. You decide where you want to end up one day. You decide what legacy you want to leave behind.

And what is that decision going to be? "OMG I can't make that choice now because it will be too hard" .. ??? ... oh come on! That's not the right attitude to have. You always have a choice in everything you do. Either you're going to be strong, and yes, sometimes hard on yourself, and make the choice to be different. Or you're going to continue to be in the void that is your life. You are the master of your own destiny. The author of your own story. How do you want it to read? What do you want to be remembered for? What do you want your children to learn from you?

And yes, I've heard a lot of excuses from people who have spoken to me about similar big decisions. "Its easy to speak about it, but not so easy to do it Meegyn". No shit Sherlock. Go on and grow a pair ... I had to and I survived. And if I can do that, if I can make a very hard and difficult decision and carry it through, then so can you. You're the only one standing in your way.

It goes without saying that having a support structure around you is helpful. I had people in my life that I though were a support structure. They turned out to be a judgemental bunch of hypocrites. I did, however, have another group that consisted of great friends and family, who have been my strength and have stood up for me when no one else would. Friends who were not always in agreement with my decision, but stood by me anyway because they love me no matter what. Its nice to have real friends in my life. And although it was hard, I'm grateful that through this journey I have discovered who my true friends really are. (You guys know who you are ... and I thank you for all your love and support and want to tell you that without it I wouldn't have made it ... I love you all more than I could ever possibly put into words!)

I'm happy and content with where my life is at right now. I began a journey that I'm sure will not be over for a long time, but certain points of that journey have been passed. They're behind me now and I've driven on. And as with any journey, we focus on what we see before us ... the road ahead ... through the windscreen. Because if we constantly stare in the rear view mirror we'll end up missing a turn and most definitely crashing the vehicle. By all means, take a look in that rear view mirror ... just to make sure you've got nothing coming up behind you to bite you in the arse. But don't focus on that. Focus on your end goal. Focus on where you're going.

Remember too that you never have to travel alone ... there will always be a willing passenger that will keep you company or even help you drive when you're exhausted and can't anymore. Just make sure that person is someone you can trust behind your wheel and not some psycho axe murderer.

Life is hard. Decisions and choices are hard. You CAN do it though. Don't give up!

60 days to go ....

Oh good Lord Almighty! Here I am, hurtling towards the big day one chocolate at a time like a giant porcus on a pogo stick ....

No, I'm not actually eating a chocolate a day and no I'm also not on a diet of any sort. I think its silly to stress myself out in that way. The way I see it, the Hubby-2-B got to know me and fell in love with me at the size I'm at. So WHY in the name of everything that is good and holy, do I have to go starve myself of something I find so delightfully pleasurable???? I think not dear people of blog land. I think NOT!

I do however have this horrid suspicion that there is tons to do in these "countdown" days and I'm missing something. Probably a good time to start looking at my endless lists and huge file again.

The reason for the horrid suspicion is of course having had another nightmare about the impending nuptuals. Now this was a little while ago (yes yes I know I should update this more often). Basically my entourage and I were all ready to go and perform in the best show the venue has ever seen (work with me here), when I was told that the reception isn't ready, the food is not ready, people are about to leave because its 7pm and the reception had to start at 5pm. I woke up with a panicked feeling and then quickly reassured myself that the wedding ceremony only starts at 5pm so theoretically the reception might only start at 7pm anyway - depending on how long it takes to make us look totally awesome and photographic. AND I've got an awesome bunch of people which includes my amazing Mistress of Ceremonies (Miss T) who will make sure nothing like this dream happens. *sigh of relief and back to sleep*

Now that dream certainly brings up a few of those points to ponder on the to do list.
  • make sure the Miss T and company are ready to make sure everything is running smoothly on the day - because there is no ways on this green earth (location dependant) that I'm going to have time for that.
  • make sure the venue and catering are all ready for action
  • double check ... no no ... quadruple check with everyone so that timing is perfect on the day
... just to name a few.

I'm still trying to get help with the table decor and flowers. Who knew things could be so difficult to find - and seriously, it not like I'm asking for things that aren't in season! People are seriously bad at giving quotations. And when they hear that you are asking due to a wedding function they load the price even more than usual! Shocking! Bunch of vultures I tell you! *shakes fist dramatically at sky*

The next major thing I have to sort out is going to buy the material needed for the Best woMan's dress, get it to the dress maker along with another picture of exactly what I want my dress to look like. Best I do that this weekend or we're going to be in serious doodoo.

All the invitations have been sent off - now we await the RSVP's to come in. I wish we could invite everyone we really want there. Hopefully those not invited will be understanding about the fact that its fooooooooking expensive to get married.

The last of the gift registries were set up this past weekend ... H2B couldn't make it, so I took the groomsman's wife and one of my offspring with me and got all trigger happy with the scanner. What fun. I just wish I could have bought all those things ... although if I did I'd need to either get a much bigger house or throw a lot of the things I currently have away. My bet is that the H2B would vote for the latter.

Dancing lessons are going famously. We have an awesome song now and are practicing to it at least once a week :) Our dancing teacher, Lesley, is the best! The epitome of patience - which with us is vital. I'm seriously wanting to go on with lessons when we're done and perhaps join one of her social couples

Met with our new DJ last week ... thank the heavens above he knows what he's doing. Gave us excellent advice and asked very good questions that raised issues we didn't even think about. Just more to do on that darn to do list.

I am seriously looking forward to getting away for the honeymoon. You have NO idea how badly I need a holiday. Life has been WAY to hectic recently.

I have found a way to relax though. Arts and crafts. If I don't make some time to do these things that I love then I will end up in Groendakkies. So at the moment I am knitting, crocheting and mozaicing. And it is AWESOME. I'll take some pics of what I've been doing and post them sometime soon.

Oh and I've joined the world of Twits too - all the fault of a lady I know who was tweeting about her birth progress while in labor. So if you are on there you can follow me too - "accordingtomeegs" ... not sure how the "look me up" function works yet

So as from 30 days I'm going to do a proper countdown to the big day and keep you posted on all the "aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggg" moments to come :)

Any advice on any of the above would be welcomed too by the way -so feel free to comment please!

Under 110 Days to go ....

Oh ... My .... Gosh!!!

I can't believe its that soon .... I'm feeling pretty prepared though. Although, we've been sending invites out and have just realised that we forgot to put in there that its a cash bar and a dress code. I'm assuming the people will realise that it's an evening wedding and will dress accordingly, but one never knows......

<---- Look at this dress!!! I'm going to be dressing my little girl in that style for the wedding ... won't that be STUNNING! I'd post what mine is going to look like, but that would give it away to the groom who up to this point only knows the colour of the material. I think I'll keep that one a secret... The bridesmaids are going to look totally amazing, by the way ... can't wait to see the completed picture. I'm going to try scan in the snippets of material I have and see if the colours come out well enough to post here ... just to give you all an idea of what we're going for here :) Excitement, excitement!!! Lets just hope it all pulls together to be one heck of a successful event. Heaven knows its a life changing one for me. I can't wait to be able to officially call this amazing man my husband! *sigh* I think I may just post a few pictures of the ideas I have had over the last few months for the big event ... needless to say I won't be able to pull them all off, but I still think they're great ideas. And yes, I'd love to hear what you all have to say.

On a different topic, I heard a saying the other day that made me feel all "warm and fuzzy" inside...

"The best kind of revenge is success!"

Yup, I believe that is going to be my motto in life ... well, it kind of has been actually. I've just never put it so many words. I love the way that my happiness and success has totally pissed off those people who have been cheering possible failure on. To all of them I say "HA HA HA!" (followed by a tongue being stuck out .... as apposed to lifting both my fists and raising my middle fingers with a grin on my face).

Yes people, you've got it right! I'm a constant surprise!

Update on Bridezilla

Well it's been a while since I last updated you all on my shenanigans regarding the wedding and all other things pertaining to my life, so here goes.

My love and I recently moved to a new house. Yes, we moved from our little three bedroom town house to a big ass house! My space woes are finally over. At least until I've filled all the open space where we're presently nestled. It's a lovely four bedroom home with sea and mountain views. Double storey. Fireplace - great for this snow filled winter weather we've been having and entertaining. Large yard with jungle gym for the klingons. *Sigh* Bliss!

We've settled in quite nicely now - just have a few more boxes to unpack. Yes, it has taken some time to unpack actually ... I've taken my time and relaxed about it. No more rushing to get everything done. Which has been a helpful attitude considering I've been working my ass off at my full time job. Which by the way I'm enjoying thoroughly :)

So due to the move (which happened beginning of May btw) the wedding plans were put on hold for a few weeks. Once we were in and partially settled I started delving into that again.....

Task one .... find the material.

OMG

What a mission. A fun one though!

Jo and I decided to go through to Cape Town to search for the right material. We dragged the hubby-2-be with because we don't know the area very well and weren't sure how safe it would be. It was great to have him along for the day though! Finally managed to find the satin for the bridesmaids dresses ... a whole R220 cheaper per meter than what I was originally quoted. Yes, Bargain Bessy strikes again. That is where the luck stopped for the day unfortunately. We got taken for lunch at Beluga in Green Point by the hubby-2-be ... sushi and cocktails at half price led to it being quite a jolly occasion. I was UBER impressed with the service and the whole feel of the place.

After that we ended up going to Canal Walk to a material shop where I originally saw the colours and material I was looking for. I found my material, but they didn't have enough of it available! Most distressing to say the least. Anyway the lady helping me was very helpful and said she'd find out from their branch in Claremont if they had any more. And so the wait began.

A few days later I got a call from her saying they have all the material, so I went off to fetch it the following weekend and took it all off to the dress maker a week later. So at least that is sorted.

I've been trying to get quotes from two florists in Somerset West for the bouquets and table decor ... its been a week and still no response. I'm hoping they don't let me down.

Other than that I've started making the invitations ... and they look great! I might post a pic of them some time soon.

Oh ... did I mention the nightmares??? No I did not! Well let me tell you something - the nightmares have started. The first one came out of no where: me and my bridesmaids sitting in a room with me in a panic because we had 10 minutes to "get to the church on time" or the groom would leave. Problem was that my hair and make up were not done and nobody was around to help with it. That had me waking up thinking "omg I better confirm EVERYTHING!"

Dream two had me waking up in a cold sweat (OK maybe a warm one because my hubby-2-be is an UBER human version of a hot water bottle). There I am (in the dream) standing at the venue. Fireplace is roaring. Decor is amazing. I turn to one of my bridesmaids and say "its so stunning, can't wait for everyone to see it" and then I gasp and go pale and say "oh #@$% ... we forgot to send the invites!" Needless to say, I woke up from that and told Gareth we have to get the guest list sorted and send the invites asap!

I haven't had another of those dreams since I got organising again - its probably my minds way of telling me to jack up my act and get the proverbial ball rolling!

Anyhoo ... keep you posted...

Just coz :P

Thank you Gin for sending these ... I had such a good laugh at how true some of them are that I am forced to post them on this blog .... enjoy :)

- More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

- Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realise you're wrong.

- There is a great need for sarcasm font.

- I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

- How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

- I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

- I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

- How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

- I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent a dick from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, people!

- Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies".

- What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?

- Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

- I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

- Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem …

- You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

- Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.

- I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

- "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever.

- As a driver I hate pedestrians and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate bikers.

- Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

- I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

- Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, hitting the G-spot, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my ass everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time...

- I wonder if cops ever get pissed off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.

- I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

Post 40 ...

Wow! I've just realised this here is going to be my 40th post ...

Yes, I just took a moment to "take that in".

Who would have thought that when I started this blog on 20 April 2009 that I would be here today blogging about my upcoming wedding! Back then things were different .... you'll have to go read it all from the beginning to catch up ... and hey, its only 40 posts (including this one) so its shorter than a magazine! LOL!

Anyway, back to the news ...

Friday evening the head of the Wonder Women Squad came to sleep over and we spent some time going through some ideas that I have and some that she found whilst browsing. OMG you've got to love these Wonder Women of mine! They are so amazing and I'm extremely happy I chose them ... and EVEN happier they said "OH HELL YEAH"!!! I love that they're keeping an eye out for little ideas and things that will really help a lot!!! You have NO idea how much that means to me...

Anyhoo, so we got up the next morning and went to one of the other Wonder Women's dedication of her child (almost like a christening ... but not, for those of you who don't know what that is). After this, we dropped the Groom at home and then dashed off to three different material shops to see if we could find exactly what we're looking for .... we didn't, but we has some options. I was then dropped back at home and then the Groom and I went to view a possible chariot ... no no no, not for the wedding ... but that's a different tale all together. We then went to meet the HWW (Head Wonder Woman) at Canal Walk with her Prince and we went to browse an store called Bride & Co. ... this was interesting indeed. Who knew wedding gowns could be THAT heavy!!! Thank god HWW was there! I would possibly have broken something ... either in the shop or on my body. Now the only drawback of this place is that all their sizes are American. And with all the big arsed people you see in that country, you'd expect them to have human sizes available in their store, but apparently there is some sort of starvation plan for brides over there that we have yet to discover. Needless to say, I will hopefully be at least half a Backstreet Boy lighter by the time I get to the Big Day.

I did see some stunning things there though and as we crammed ourselves into a spaciously small dressing room (spot the sarcasm?) with a few poofy, heavy dresses and no aircon, the reality of the fact that I'm actually trying on wedding dresses hit me. I'm getting married .... again .... (another "take it in" moment) ... and no, that's not a "omg" moment in a bad way ... that's a "sigh and smile in happiness" moment. Anyway, the dresses. Wow, who makes these things!!! As HWW held the dress open, many poofy skirts cascading over the minimal floor space, I struggled to see the carpet. Lifting my chubby thighs over the waist area of the dress while trying to get into them - all this whilst contending with the hysterical laughter from HWW - it was pointed out that once you manage to loose all the weight you want to before your Big Day, you put it all on again once you put the dress on ... yip ... they're THAT heavy! God willing I don't loose my boobs through the "minus-half-a-backstreet-boy" process, because that may be the only thing that will keep a dress like that hitched up on my body. That and perhaps some strategically placed superglue. But hey, it was a total hoot and loads of fun.

After that we toddled off to the main mall and HWW took me to a delightful material shop. And there it was. The materials. The colours. It was perfect! Some of the stuff they had in there was insanely expensive, but the material we looked at was not too bad at all! Now its just a matter of taking it with me when we go see the dress designer we have an appointment with at the end of Feb. I hope he's the one ... I just want to get it sorted out.

As for photographers, we're still having to make a final decision. One more person to see and then hopefully at the end of the week we can say "we choose you!" ... It will be a relief because I just want to get as much organized as soon as possible so that I can enjoy the smaller things like the decor and spending more time with my WW.

Anyway, the Klingon's have arrived, so I'm going to let you get back to your normality too ...

Ciao for now :)

......and the list goes on ....

So the engagement party is over and it was fun and relaxed. It was great to have our friends and family there - thank you so much to all of you who came and celebrated with us. Thanks to those who had the decency to pitch up after RSVPing ... and to the rest who didn't pitch after saying they were coming - at least we know who to invite to the wedding and who not! LOL!

I haven't had time to download the photo's of the evening yet. Danielle and Raechel played the roll of official photographers. Danielle used my camera and Raechel hijacked her ouma's camera. They seemed to have a ball with it all. As soon as I've done the download I'll probably load the pics onto Facebook and maybe put a few on here too :)

My Wonder Women were fabulous once again. The took lolly-pops and put little tags on that said something along the lines of "Thanks for being here...." etc. It was so thoughtful and very unexpected. They're setting the bar so that if I'm ever asked I'll have to out do them! So word to the wise my dearest Wonder Women ... be careful what you dish out ;)

Things are moving along slowly where plans are concerned. I've ordered a key accessory for my outfit and it is gorgeous! I found it on a website called Pretty Cute Things. Take a look and see if you can guess what I chose ;) ... that excludes The Wonder Women and The Groom as they already know. I should have this key piece by the end of this week :) ... *excited grin*!

Tomorrow evening I've made an appointment to go see a photographer friend of mine who gave me a quotation to do the wedding. She was one of the few that actually got back to me too! I find that hard to deal with ... you know ... the "we're-friends-so-she-won't-mind-if-I-just-take-my-time-to-get-back-to-her" thing that most people you associate with do to you. What the heck is that about anyway?! As long as the others don't go all postal on me when they find out they've lost an opportunity, so be it. I know this friend would do a sensational job of capturing my special day ... and she's available too ... which, lets face it, is a major point to take into consideration.

I've also managed to book the make-up artist who will be making us all look drop-dead gorgeous on The Big Day. I have heard great things about her work and she comes highly recommended. So all hopes of making me look decent on the day will rest on her shoulders!

My guru of a beautician (who is also at times uber sadistic depending on what tools she has at her disposal at the time ... and yet I always go back for more ... *shakes head*) has given me the number of the dress maker she used for her wedding last year. Hopefully when I get around to speaking to him ...... hang on ......

.......
.....
.
technology ... man you've got to love it!

Just spoke to the dress maker's assistant and now have an appointment for 27 February at 9:30am .... now to send a quick mail out to The Wonder Women to book them. Hope they're all available, but if not I'll go anyway and take them later when they're all able to go!

Ok, the list .... what's next .... oh yes! Next on the list is the "Save The Date" goodies ... but before we can send those out we have to finalize the guest list .... I say "we", but I actually mean The Groom and the Future Mother-in-law need to finalize their side of the guest list. We have a certain amount of people we can invite and no more than that or the venue won't hold us ... so we have to try stick to that. It does mean we'll end up not being able to invite a few people we'd like to have there. Hope they understand.

Once the guest list is sorted out, then we're going to send out the "Save The Date" goodies ... which will give the guests time to sort out whatever transport and accommodation needs they may have to be sorted out before they even get the invitation :) ... clever hey :) (she says as if she's the first to come up with this concept! Pfffttt!)

Oh yes, and the other thing I managed to do was speak to my hairdresser about doing the hair for the wedding. She is an absolute goddess when it comes to doing hair and has won an award for her up styles. She's also giving me a good group price, which is very helpful. I've also booked the superwoman who will be doing my "cake" ... and no, I'm not going traditional with that either!

I'm getting excited!!!!! Could you tell?

Bridezilla & The Wonder Women: Mission 001

Mission Log 23 January 2010

Our first mission was today.

We all converged at Head Quarters. All except one who was almost taken down earlier this morning by the evils of General Migraine. As Lady K's luck would have it, Captain Myprodol was at her side and her recovery was swift.

While she was recovering, Lady A and Lady J accompanied me to a potential maker of suitable robes. Needless to say we shall keep looking.

Once done there the two Wonder Women were dropped off at HQ to meet with Lady K while I travelled swiftly to my torture session. It would seem that the trio had much to discuss in my absence. I dare not ask as I fear it may be too much to even consider what plans they may have!

We met up again at the future Hall of Celebrations hoping to eat and be merry while planning the final mission which is only nine months away. Unfortunately we are unable to feast there as the Hall was being prepared for another team's celebration. We did some reconnaissance so that our plans could be put into action more effectively. And then we were off to find sustenance to regain our strength.

It has been a very successful day with many an interesting word spoken. Our team is a strong one. A team to be reckoned with. Already the friendships are strongly forged.

I shall report again soon. For now, I must attend to more planning.

The Wonder Women

I wonder if it's too early to actually start planning so intensely for the wedding. Not that I have much time to do too much at the moment. There should be some sort of list of "things to do", but I haven't actually set one up yet. Kinda taking it moment for moment.

This Saturday I'm going to take my Wonder Women to see a dress maker. After that I'm going to have myself tortured at my beautician while my Wonder Women will start getting to know each other better and perhaps st
art plotting some weird and wonderful things. See, the leader of my Wonder Women trio has constant moments of weird and wonderful ideas and will undoubtedly put them into full use given the opportunity. That's why she is the best friend in the whole world and why I love her so much.

Once I get back from my torture session, I will fetch the Wonder Women and off we shall go in my sexy beast of a car to the venue for lunch. This is going to be an opportunity for us to really get a feel for the place and see what we can do to make the Big Day totally gorgeous! So I'll be throwing out the few ideas I have and seeing if they've got some to share too :)

I really want the four of us to be able to sit down together on the evening and feel like something has been cemented between us. That our friendships have been taken to another level. I have this vision in my head of the four of us dancing and singing to loud music on the dance floor that night, with tears of laughter falling down our immaculately made up faces (one way to test the quality of the make up used).

I also have other visions in my head of that evening, but I'll tell you about those later ;)
